Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics established in the year 1967 has both undergraduate and postgraduate (1986) programmes available for the students. The Department since its inception has been working in tune with the mission of the university – to promote teaching, research and extension. In the entire state of Madhya Pradesh, the department holds the privilege of being one of the three colleges to offer statistics program at the postgraduate level. The faculty members attend Academic programs such as orientation and refresher courses held at academic staff colleges of different universities all over the nation. The staff members also work as resource persons in various academic activities. The department has its own library that caters to the academic needs of the students. Teachers also help in counselling of the students. The staff is research oriented and organizes group discussions and seminars for the benefit of the students.
The Department offers three combinations at the undergraduate level; Statistics with (1) Physics and Mathematics, (2) Mathematics and Computer Science and (3) Mathematics and Economics. The curriculum of Statistics at the postgraduate level has always been a balanced blend of topics concerning Distribution Theory, Stochastic Modeling, Statistical Inference, Operation Research, Demography, Statistical Quantity Control, Econometrics, Sampling Techniques etc. It organizes seminars and practical fieldwork for the postgraduate students. The Department plans to set a data collection and analysis centre for Western Madhya Pradesh
