Department of Biotechnology
Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2010 with the course Bachelor’s in Biotechnology including three years B.Sc. Biotechnology. In the year 2014, the department started the programme of Masters in Biotechnology. The Department offers faculty and students plenty of opportunities for academic study and research.
The final semester of PG provides an opportunity to do a research work on a topic preferably selected by the student and which connects them to one of the reputed Institutes such as, RRCAT Indore, ICAR Indore, ICAR Bhopal, IISER Bhopal, AIIMS Bhopal, etc. with recommendation made by the department. This training cum research project in form of a dissertation enables them for the future stream of study or work.
The department has laboratories that are well-equipped to give students access to first-hand learning and research possibilities. Through research projects, which are offered as a component of the course curriculum, postgraduate students in the department gain useful research experience.
The Department of Biotechnology organizes events like celebration of commemorative Days; Seminars, Workshops, Guest Lectures, Conferences on National and International levels; Exhibitions, Industrial and Educational visits to let the students acquire practical knowledge and self-learning. These activities provide a platform to showcase students’ talents and skills in academic, extracurricular and co-curricular area and the overall development.
Under NEP 2020, Vocational courses have been introduced in the curriculum. The Department of Biotechnology runs ‘Medical Diagnostics Course’ since then. In addition to regular courses, a certificate course “Laboratory Techniques in Biological Sciences” is also conducted by the Dept. of Biotechnology to provide the knowledge of the basic practices and instrumentation. Department has flourished with many brilliant students holding positions in Merits at University Level.
